Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra step of security to your account. With 2FA, you need to enter a unique code when you log in to confirm it's really you.
With 2FA, even if someone gets your login details, you can still access your Stockity account, so we highly recommend setting it up.
Note. To set up 2FA, you need a confirmed email. First, it's a necessary security step, and second, this is how we can reach you in case of any emergency.
How to set up 2FA?
The 2FA settings are in your Profile. In the web version, click on your profile picture in the traderoom and then click Set up 2FA. If you're using the app, tap Manage 2FA.
Then follow these quick steps:
- Install the authenticator app
Our recommendation is Google Authenticator or Authy. - Add your Stockity account to the app
Scan our QR code with the app's scanner or type in a special code from the platform into the app. - Verify the app
After you add the code in the authenticator app, you'll get a one-time 6-digit code. Enter it into the form on the platform. - Keep recovery codes safe
Copy the recovery codes somewhere safe or download them as a file. These codes are an alternative way to get into your account. In case you won’t be able to use your authenticator app or phone, these codes are your only way in.
Keep in mind that each code can be used only once, so remember to update them once you use some of them because when you use 10/10 of the codes (without updating), there won’t be a way to get into your account. - Finish setting up 2FA
Use one of the recovery codes you saved before.
How to log in with 2FA?
From now on, when you log in to the platform, you'll need to enter the code from your authentication app. Keep in mind: it’s only valid for a short period of time. So if the code doesn't work, check your app — it might have changed.
If you can't use the app, use the recovery code instead. Remember, these codes are only valid once, so update them regularly. And don't forget to keep them safe.
How to turn off 2FA?
To turn off 2FA, go to your Profile → Manage 2FA → Turn off. Confirm this with your authentication code.
If you want to turn it back on, relink your Stockity account to the authenticator app:
- Remove the old code from your authenticator app:
— On Google Authenticator, hold the code, edit and delete it.
— On Authy, swipe your account left and press Delete.- Add your Stockity account to the app again
- Rescan the QR code in your Stockity profile with the app's scanner
You can see if 2FA is active by the light in your Profile (green for On or red for Off).
Common issues
- The QR code is invalid or incorrect
Check your app's and your device's time and date settings. They might be out of sync. Adjust the settings to fix it.
For example, on Android's Google Authenticator, go to the main menu, tap More → Settings → Time correction for codes → Sync now. The app will confirm the sync, and you can request the code again.
If you can't scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, you can enter it manually.
- The authentication code is invalid
The app updates codes regularly, so your code might be outdated. Check the app and try again. Also, make sure you're using the codes generated for your Stockity account. You can also use one of the recovery codes to log in.
- The recovery code is invalid
The platform doesn’t accept codes with dashes (–) in place of hyphens (-) and caps letters (ABC) in place of small ones (abc). The code you type in and the one you’ve saved must match exactly, so it’s better just to copy and paste.
Another issue might be that you’ve already used this code. In this case, try another recovery or authentication code. Remember, recovery codes are one-time use, so keep them updated.
